The Wren Rising is a collection of Traditional music sessions that takes place in multiple venues across Woodford village after the Wren Run. For these ‘Trad sessions’, local groups of musicians donate their time playing music to raise funds for Pieta House. The Wren Rising has been a fantastic success for us and attracts over 500 people to our 3 venues throughout the day.
‘The Wren Bar Session’
The Wren @ 1pm
With all the warmth of an Irish local but with a modern twist, we kick off our day of music in the Wren located in the middle of Woodford village. Recently refurbished, it is a popular choice for locals and those visiting for the day. One can be guaranteed that no matter what refreshment they are seeking after the run, their needs will be satisfied by friendly and accommodating staff members. The owner is a DUB but he is quite fluent in the local language too!
‘The Forrest Bar Session’
Walsh’s Bar & Restaurant @ 3pm
A classic Irish local in every way imaginable, Walsh’s is known for its top quality service and endearing commitment to making patrons happy. With a deep love and appreciation for craic and ceol, anyone who stops by will be treated to the very best aspects of rural Ireland. Complete with an adjoining restaurant, visitors to Walsh’s can also fill their bellies with a variety of dishes available from a rich, extensive menu.
‘The Derrycrag Bar Session’
Elsie’s Bar @ 5pm
Situated on the slope of ‘Woodford’s Valley’, between the peak of the village and Bark Hill, Elsie’s is a cosy spot with lots of space and craic. A popular choice for music in the town, it has plenty of room for dances, be it with a brush or with a partner! No strangers to doing their part for charity, Elsie’s has hosted many events in the name of charity. Stopping in for some music and a refreshment for the Wren Rising would be time well spent, and, no doubt, well enjoyed.
