Woodford Tidy Towns group has helped bring pride back and contributed massively to the enhancement of Woodford, a small ‘beautiful’ village nestled in the glen of the Slieve Aughty Mountains.
The Tidy Towns’ impressively large group of volunteers, considering the village population, encompasses all ages from the youthful Scouts to active senior citizens and everyone in between. For the Tidy Towns committee, there’s a place for everyone to help build pride in our village. Their initiative has encouraged the inhabitants of Woodford to showcase their community spirit by adorning their freshly painted homes with pollinator friendly flower baskets, bird boxes, bug hotels and artworks that reflect Woodford’s cultural history, which once included a thriving iron industry.
Sustainability is key to the Tidy Towns’ effort, striving to look after our beautiful setting and beyond, upcycling otherwise discarded items and creatively reinventing them. On your visit, see if you can spot all the up-cycled bikes in the village.
It’s such a ‘sound’ village, even the fairies are moving in. We are always looking after our neighbours, from placing seats on the hilly streets, to intriguing child height doors that welcome enquiring eyes.
Following the success of 2018 and winning the Endeavour Award in Co. Galway, Woodford continues to add iconic items that reflect the historical richness of this village and showcasing all it has to offer.
